2016 Fall Alumni News Update

UF AAWLI Tailgate Event Rescheduled

Unfortunately, with the University of Florida’s recent changes to their football schedule, the AAWLI Tailgate event on November 19th has been rescheduled for next year’s UF football schedule.  

Many thanks are extended to the Wheeler family for agreeing to co-host the tailgate.  Please stay tuned for more information about this family-friendly event in 2017!

2016 Annual FFVA WLI Alumni Reception

The 2016 Annual FFVA WLI Alumni Reception took place on September 29th at FFVA’s convention in Naples, Fl.  

Class VII member Lisa Lochridge helped organize this event for our alumni members to gather in the Ritz Carlton Dusk lounge during the convention.  

The Alumni Association and FFVA together bought beverages for the attendees of the reception.  More photos from the reception can be seen here

Florida Farm Bureau Federation 75th Annual Meeting Recognizes WLI Alumni


Class III member, Nancy McDonald, was recently honored at the Florida Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting with the FBACT Award.  Class II member and Florida Farm Bureau Federation President John Hoblick (pictured here with Nancy) presented the award.

The 75th annual meeting took place on October 26th-28th, 2016, in Orlando, FL.

Congratulations to you, Nancy, for this well-deserved honor!

halsey-beshearsClass V member and Representative Halsey Beshears was also recognized at the 2016 Florida Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting as the 2016 Legislator of the Year.

cherry-lakeCongratulations to Cherry Lake Tree Farm for their recognition as recipients of the Commissioner’s 2016 Ag-Environmental Leadership Award at the 2016 Florida Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting.  

Class VI member Timothee Sallin, Class VII member Chloe Gentry, and Class X member Austin Spivey were at the meeting to receive this award.

Class IX Members Receive Wedgworthy Honors

Class IX member Brittany Lee was recommended by Florida Growers to be a state member representing Florida for the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC).

Brittany received the most state member ballots in Florida and will now be recommended by the USHBC to be the state member upon consideration and appointment by the Secretary.  It will be the final decision of the Secretary as to who will assume these positions for the three-year term beginning January 1, 2017.

Congratulations, Brittany!  We are proud of how you represent Wedgworth at the national level!


Class IX member, Ben Butler, recently represented Florida Dairy Farmers as the honorary gameday captain at the University of Florida Homecoming Football Game on October, 15th, 2016.  

Ben was joined on Florida Field for the coin toss by his parents and fellow Class IX member, Noah Handley.

Way to represent Wedgworth, the dairy industry, and the Gator Nation, Ben!  Congrats on the honor!
